Octagonal Blocks ~ Bag Layout |
I used the small (5") size blocks, and my Sashiko 2 - small designs.
I made up 2 extra designs as I only had 4 circles and wanted 6, but you could
repeat 3 of the blocks on each side.
For the squares I adapted one of the all over all over design patterns to fit.
~ Completed bag sizes ~
Small (5") - 15" wide x 10" high
Medium (6") - 18" wide x 12" high
Large (7") - 21" wide x 14" high
| |
Join all octagonal blocks first, then add the squares
and 4 corners as shown in the above diagram. |
|
Join the corner blocks to the octagonals as shown above (red arrows)
|
|
With right sides together, bring the tops together.
Join the sides. The diagram above shows how the bag shape will be formed.
The 4 corners on the top of the bag can also be joined once the bag is completed.
This is a personal choice.
I had my hubby cut a thin piece of plywood for the base, which I covered with fabric.
I made the handles and hand stitched them in. |
